I ran across a new word for me today, "Quiddity." It has two, nearly opposite meanings: 1. something's essence, or 2. a trivial quibble. This is, for me, the razor's edge that defines whether a work of art is worthwhile or boring. Has the artist captured the essence, or merely quibbled about trivial details. It turns out that the same word describes both! How utterly fitting!
